Christmas – a bit too early?
Every year, around this time of year, something starts to bug me. I notice it around me, but I can’t quite put a finger on it. Then it hits me: Christmas. Everywhere. Great! I say to myself. Except for one thing: It’s still October.
What is it with Christmas creeping in on other holidays? And I know it can’t just be a Chicago thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, how it brings people together..seeing kids open up their gifts…the lighting displays in neighbor’s front yards (unless it’s been kept up since last year…don’t be lazy people). But it truly is annoying, seeing wreaths, Santa, and holiday lights right across the isle from Dracula, He-Man, and Spidey. Are the corporations that greedy? Yes. And my concern is that, as time goes on, it’ll creep up earlier and earlier every year. And at that point, Christmas is no longer a holiday – it’s a season. Spring – Summer – Fall – Christmas?
