Are They Neo Neu New New Wave?
Now’s your chance to find out if Nikkos’ observations hold true – the Ladies & Gentlemen are playing again tonight at the Liar’s Club (1665 W. Fullerton Ave.).
Are they “new” new wave? Or are they retro-pop 80’s? Perhaps they’re indie retro new wave 80’s punk pop… pill poppers. This reminds me of the Beatles’ answer to “Are you a mod or a rocker?” “We’re mockers.”
Come judge the Ladies and Gentlemen’s sound for yourselves. Find out what a faux-hawk is (I’m not sure either). Find out if Nikkos was just hallucinating. Find out if I really double-fist pints. Find out if this disturbing practice of “beer-bagging” is going to be a trend. (I, for one, hope not. No, don’t ask me what it is. Just protect your beer at all times.)
Despite my inability to “get” the New New Wave aesthetic (or have anyone explain it to me apparently), The Ladies and Gentlemen are an excellent band. I hear traces of Bowie, Talking Heads, The Cars- even a bit of Devo thrown in.
Highly recommended!
the ladies and gentlemen are a terrifically musical rock act with an abundance of talent, style, verve, heat and poise. the pistol is loaded! le cravat est blanc.
slam on the brakes and make a skid.
Actually, I always considered The L&Gs more “glam pop” than “new wave.”
whether glam pop, new wave, retro-pop, power punk, rockers, mods, or mockers, l & g brought the house down again last night. y’all shoulda been there. (i behaved myself, nikkos.)
Apparently I was wrong in my contention that the New NEw Wave represented a scene of any sort. Via my friend Dave, I now realize it is simply a sub species of hipsterdom.

I scored a 0. I’ve never been happier to “fail” a test!
