Chicago: Fit or fat, we’re #1!

I’m just not sure which one. The Trib is running a story today online that says “Chicago named fattest city”. The article, written by AP writer Ben Nuckols and based on a study performed by Men’s Fitness magazine, also claims that Baltimore is the fittest. Sound a bit funny to you? It did to me…I’m not sure about other parts of town, but in Lakeview, we’re more fit than fat. So, using my investigative know-how (searching for Men’s Fitness on Google…genius!), I found out the truth. Turns out Chicago is America’s fittest city, Baltimore its fattest. I’m not really sure who to believe, but my gut says stick with Men’s Fitness until they say otherwise. So, rejoice Chicago, cuz either way, fit or fat, we’re #1!

UPDATE: Ok, so the pie’s on my face. After more research, turns out Men’s Fitness considers Chicago the fattest city around. My apologies to Ben Nuckols and the Trib. This is exactly why I’m not a journalist/reporter. Still, we’re #1…even though it’s not really something to be that proud of…

First, the list on the Men’s Fitness site has a column labeled “Last Year” which would seem to have, oh, say, last years rank. But then some of the “Last Year” numbers have an asterisk which says “* Ranking in the top 25 fittest cities in 2005”. That would be… you guessed it: last year! What the hell?

Then, in one year, Baltimore went from *25* on the “Fittest” list to #1? Either they are seriously working out in Baltimore, or the jerkwads at Men’s Fitness can’t conduct a survey to save their lives… I’ll let you guess where my money is. Maybe less time in the gym… :)

Yeah, it’s a bit messed up on MF’s part. They actually list Chicago as fittest, Balt as fattest. But if you click on Chicago in the list, they go on to explain how we warranted such a poor grade. They gave us some pretty crappy reviews in the fitness area. Oh well. Another donut, anyone?

Men’s Fitness determined that people in Chicago are fit/fat… how? I think that Chicago is a pretty fit city. Everywhere I look, I see gyms,
health clubs, massage ads by, personal training ads, and more. Chicago is
fitter and more healthy than Boston. Another
    bowl of chowda anyone?
