File Under: Dubious Honors
Chicago may no longer be home to the highest buildings, but it’s now home to the highest cigarette taxes in the U.S.
Look for cost-conscious smokers to flee the city for their fix, as this Sun-Times article predicts. Of course we at Metroblogging Chicago have been predicting this for some time as well…
I recommend suburban Costco locations- where you can buy a carton of smokes (an unthinkable luxury if purchased within city limits) for about $34 (depending on your brand) vs. about $70 in the city.
Time for a smoke break.
