“UFO Over Illinois”
An artist’s rendering of the UFO spotted over southern Illinois
in 2000, based on eyewitness accounts.
Last night as I was surfing channels, I came across the program “UFO Over Illinois” on the Discovery Channel (yes, UFO’s on the Discovery Channel make about as much sense as Atlantis on the History Channel, but I digress).
Despite the sketchy production values and terrible pacing of the program, the story itself was quite good and not one I had heard. Apparently in 2000, a UFO was sighted over southern Illinois. And the funny thing was that it wasn’t just your typical drunken hicks and slack-jawed yokels that saw it- in this case, several police officers witnessed the UFO while on duty. The show even included the recordings of their conversations with the 911 dispatcher- the sense of awe and disbelief is their voices was palpable.
Cue spooky theremin music…more after the jump.
Anyways, The Discovery Channel website isn’t very helpful when it comes to determining when the show will be re-broadcast. So you’ll just have to channel surf or as they say, “check your local listings.”
Of course, like any UFO story, there are far more questions than answers: were the UFO’s simply a top secret aircraft from neighboring Air Force bases? The Air Force denies it, and why would they fly secret aircraft around with all its running lights on? Maybe it was some Air Force flyboys having a good time. But then how to explain the strange aerial maneuvers, shape and size of the aircraft? As far as this stuff goes, this was a pretty good UFO story- lots of credible eyewitnesses, and they even brought in an artist and animator to try to recreate as accurately as possible the experiences of each eyewitness.
For the curious, there’s lots of info here about the sighting and various theories for the phenomenon. If you’re lucky, maybe you can catch this show when it’s on again.
Til then…keep watching the skies.
why would aliens, who i imagine also wouldn’t want to be discovered, have their running lights on?
Perhaps for the same inexplicable reasons they were hanging out in Southern Illinois. Who knows dude? They’re ALIENS!
really? UFO over IL? hmm i watch discovery channel from time to time .. didn’t come across it ..
i know the website is not helpful when it comes to finding the names of shows like which show did i miss.
I thought I saw a UFO over my place one night but in the end just figured it was the Jose Cuervo 1800 and the Tostadas talking….
Looks quite similar to the Polycom conference phones we use at work.
Tim, ha!, you’re right- they have those at my office too!
Recent HISTORY CHANNEL show w/ British Aerospace Investigator NICK COOK had a segment w/ a Seattle man who had built a balsa/aluminum frame delta shape model in his garage that “FLOATED” when electricity was switched on and (through it) Curiously, as already stated this “Anti-Gravity” model was very similar in configuration to many recent UFO sightings ie. the IL. incident on the Discovery Channel show you’re talking about-(Also,among other reports the “Phoenix Lights” flap a few years back were purported to be Delta shaped craft. So there you have it.Personally, I am recently convinced that many “sightings” are in fact “Black Ops.” projects from OUR Military/Air Force/Government or perhaps some secret “Bazillion-aire”backed (Illuminati/Captain Nemo/Dr.Evil)”Types”? Thats it for now,.END TRANSMISSION—J.Mann
