Big News

My girlfriend woke me up this morning and said “I’ve got some big news,” and I said “what?” And she said “actually two things,” and I said “OK,” and she said “do you want the big news or the bigger news first?” And I said “give me the bigger news first,” and so she says “Harold’s Chicken. They’re opening one in Wicker Park.”

“OK,” I said, “what’s the other big news?” And she said “that guy you voted for lost.”

She was referring to Edwin Eisendrath, the challenger to Blago in the Dem primary, and I expected him to lose, but that’s why I voted for him, kind of a message vote to Rod. He lost 70-30, which isn’t too bad, but I’m guessing that Rod won’t get that message.

I think the GOP made a good choice in Judy Baar Topinka, in that she is an actual breathing candidate that people can realistically consider voting for, which is a step up for the Republican party in our fine state of Illinois. She is also pro-choice, which leads me to believe that Republicans will not be happy to vote for her, but that is the only reason I would even consider giving her my vote. Let’s see if her position changes after the GOP machine gets a hold of her.

As of this writing Stroger vs. Claypool has not been determined but Iraq vet Tammy Duckworth won in her bid to take the seat that the abominable Henry Hyde has finally vacated (it’s about time!). A team of hypocritical hippos could have replaced Hyde and you would have seen an improvement, but Duckworth is a great candidate and I hope she can take it back for the Democrats.

My only other comment about the election is that the ballot was huge and I used a marker to “X” my choices and I thought that was weird.

As for Harold’s Chicken, I like the comment in the Sun-Times today from operations manager J.R. Williams: “The neighborhood is ready for some good bird.”

Did you think, for one terrifying second, that she was going to tell she was pregnant? I was terrified for a second and I’m not even you!

That’s hilarious! No, I think I was too groggy to really jump to that conclusion…
