Detention Facility

From: Chicago Defender / Local:

Most workers at Cook County Juvenile Court Wednesday were unaware that a settlement had been reached. The few who did were tight-lipped about the case.

A staff member at the detention center said he could not comment on the case or the settlement. Al Tomaso, a supervisor for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, said he was surprised at the news of the settlement, but would not comment on the details.

Most of us did not know about the settlement today. After hearing, and reading, about it, I cannot see how this settlement is going to improve the situation in the detention center in the long term. The TDC will have more monitors and the health services will be provided by another county agency. This does nothing to improve the over all conditions in the facility nor does it bring any significant control to the hiring practices.

Once again the county fails to protect its most vulnerable.
