Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor is HERE!
BREAKING!!!
Chicagoist is reporting (the permalink to the post is broken) that due to illness, Lupe will not perform tonight at The Metro as reported below. Apparently he showed up to a scheduled interview with WGN this morning sporting an IV. And no, that’s not just the latest in bling couture- the dude is apparently quite ill. Get well soon Lupe!
Finally, today is the day: the long-awaited release of the major label debut, “Food & Liquor,” from Chicago’s very own Lupe Fiasco. I’ve been waiting, and waiting, for this record to drop since I first heard Lupe’s “Fahrenheit 1/15: Revenge of the Nerds” mixtape some months ago. I hope the record lives up to the hype, lest Lupe find himself opening for The Strokes by this time next year.
Also, Lupe is playing a “secret show” at The Metro tonight. Doors open at 7 and the show, according to Lupe’s MySpace page “starts immediately after” (yeah, riiiight).
The show is FREE and is all-ages, but here’s the catch:
“A select number of ‘guaranteed admission’ wristbands will be available for pick up starting day of show: Tuesday (9/19) morning when the store opens at 10 AM @ (only on day of show you cant pick them up before).”
So, if you are unemployed, underage, or happen to work near The Metro, you may be in luck. The rest of us will just have to take our chances, I suppose.
To clarify, to get a wristband you have to go to Tower Records at 2301 N. Clark, NOT to The Metro itself.
This album leaked months ago, and I heard a friend’s copy, and I have no idea why the label kept pushing its release back. It’s a solid, soild disc.
A version of the album leaked months ago, but Lupe has stated that he went back and reworked a lot of it after the leaking so it’s hard to say what form the final record will take. Other than the leaking, I have no idea why the label kept pushing the release date back either- judging by the strength of his mixtape, I think Lupe could have owned the summer. Maybe now he’ll dominate back-to-school and college dorm rooms instead.
Juding from the foot traffic at the Best Buy near my office just now, Lupe’s disc is flying off the shelves.
Well, I said I wasn’t sure. Metro’s confirming he will show, but probably won’t perform. Opening acts on as scheduled. We updated but you can get more at Metro’s blog here:

Thanks Mr. Smith. BTW, your site is down at the moment.
Picked up my copy at lunch, and while much of it is familiar, what’s with the “Outro” full of shout-outs to EVERYONE?
Also, if you pick it up at Best Buy it has three bonus tracks on the disc. Yay!
…I’m only on track 5 so far…
Ha, now I see what you mean TB. But then again, how often do you hear a shout out to the mixers and engineers? I bet any mizxers and engineers in the audience would say, “Not often enough.”
True, I’m sure … but it still takes the blush off an otherwise fine album. I’d rather end on a high note.
On the other hand, he certainly save ink on the printing on the CD booklet this way!
…on the other hand, it’s probably the first hip-hop album in history with no skits. That’s gotta count for something!
For that I am, indeed, thankful.
