you know you wanna…

…be a coed prison slut. you can feel it in you. well i can’t promise that you’ll be coveted by your cellmate anytime soon, but annoyance theater’s fall improv classes are starting soon, so on the path to slutdom you will be. i’ve wanted to try improv for quite some time and now i’m taking the plunge. i thought about second city, but annoyance is closer, only a few blocks away (4840 n broadway), so it won. i’d be curious to hear anyone’s experiences with improv. it seems so easy when you see it on the stage or tv, but when you get up there…with actual people watching…

I took the Player’s Workshop Improv (http://www.theaterland.com/training_pws_home.htm) a few years ago and I thought it was *great*. It was a complete blast and I’d highly recommend it to anyone. I’m sure many of the others offered are good, too. If you ask me, you can’t go wrong with an improv class in this town.

Keep in mind though that most improv classes aren’t about party games like on TV–they tend to be more built around the Del Close, long form improv model. You might do games as warm-ups, etc. but most of the “learning” is done with long form stuff.

Personally, I’ve always wanted to go take one of the UCB classes in NYC, too… those guys are great. But overall, I think Chicago has the best improve in the country. Go for it!!

I’m a big fan of the Annoyance classes, as I wrote for the Metroblog last year…
