I caffeinate, therefore I am.
Driving through the Loop yesterday, a particular coffee shop caught my eye. Ever heard of Cafe Descartes? Apparently, it’s been around for a while. Don’t know why I’ve never heard of it.
I’ll have to check it out.

Cafe Descartes’ specialty drink is the “Oatmeal Latte”. The first time I got one, I assumed that like, say, a “Vanilla Latte” or a “Hazelnut Latte” that it was simply oatmeal-flavored. Not so. It’s a full serving of oatmeal, with nuts and raisins, topped with coffee and milk. In a large coffee cup. It’s redonkulous.
Their Loop location is pretty recent, but they’ve been in Chicago for years.
That link doesn’t work. And they’re not really a Loop place . . . they’ve been in Lincoln Square for quite a while. That location is a cool place which I really enjoy, although I’ve never been brave enough to try the Oatmeal Latte.
woops! sorry about the faulty link! i’ll fix it!
I made the same mistake as Fuzzy the first time I ordered the oatmeal latte; when they arrived, my boyfriend and I were shocked- and really excited, because they’re DELICIOUS. the location in Lincoln Square also has gelato, though I”m not sure about the location in Rogers Park (which is always closed, anyway, maybe they’re closed for good?)
Cafe Descartes is pretty awesome, give ’em a try and see what you think.
